Choose Which Products Display Your Options
Assign options to products
Before your options can appear on your storefront, you must assign your Option Set to the products that should display it.
Think of an assignment as answering one question: "Which products should display these options?"
We will walk you through how to set that up
You can follow the steps below or start by watching the video.
If You’re Just Getting Started
We recommend starting with one of these:
Selected Products — best for testing on a few items
Tag — best for flexible control as your store grows
You can always adjust your assignment later.
Step 1: Open Your Option Set
Open Infinite Options
Click Option Sets in the left sidebar
Create a new Option Set or open an existing one
At the top of the page, you’ll see a light-blue assignment area. This is where you decide which products should show these options.

Step 2: Choose How You Want to Assign
Important: Option Sets Are Assigned to Products, Not Variants
Infinite Options assigns Option Sets at the product level, not the variant level. Option Sets cannot be attached directly to individual variants.
You can assign options using one of the following methods:
All Products Displays this Option Set on every product in your store. Best for: Store-wide personalization fields like gift messages.
Selected Products Choose specific products one by one. Best for: A small number of products that need unique options.
Product Type Assign options to all products that share the same Shopify Product Type. Best for: Stores organized by clear product categories.
Tag Assign options to products that contain a specific Shopify tag. Best for: Flexible control. Many merchants use tags because they are easy to manage.
Vendor Displays product options from a specific vendor. Best for: Multi-brand stores.
URL Targets one product using its full product URL.
Handle Targets one product using its shortened URL Example:
classic-varsity-top
Each method gives you control over where your options appear. Choose the one that best matches how your store is organized.
Important: Options Apply to Products, Not Variants
Infinite Options assigns Option Sets at the product level, not the variant level.
This means:
You can assign options to a product
You cannot assign options directly to individual variants
Step 3: Enter Your Matching Text
After choosing your assignment method:
Start typing the product name, tag, vendor, or other identifier
Matching results will appear in a dropdown
Click the correct match to apply it

Your assignment must be selected from the dropdown list to apply correctly. Below the assignment area, you’ll see how many products match your rule.
You can also click the preview link to see how the options will appear before saving.
Step 4: Use AND / OR for More Control (Optional)
You can combine rules to be more specific. AND Shows options only if a product matches all rules.
Example: Product Type = “Shirt” AND Tag = “Custom”
This would show options only on shirts that also have the “Custom” tag. OR
Think of OR like a comma in a list.
Example: Product = “Tote Bag” OR Product = “Backpack”
This works like saying: Tote Bag, Backpack
If a product matches either rule, the options will appear.
Step 5: Save Your Changes
Click Save in the upper right corner.
Your options will now display on the products that match your assignment rule.
Most Common Issue
If your assignment looks correct but options are not appearing, it usually means:
The product was not selected from the dropdown
The product is not active or published
AND was used instead of OR
The Infinite Options block is not installed on your theme
If everything looks correct and options still do not appear, our support team is happy to help.
